Reading Fluency

The students should be reading at least 85 words per minute at this time of year.  By the end of third grade, the students should be reading 120 words per minute.  If your child is struggling with this, the best thing you can have them do is read as much as possible.  You could have them read out loud, so that you know they are actually reading.

Reading Log

The students will be given a reading log every Friday.  They will need to read 80 minutes a week and turn it in the following Friday.

Spelling

We will take the Spelling/Writing test every Friday.  The students will have to spell all 15 words on the front. On the back, they will be given  five sentences to write correctly.   Each sentence is worth 3 points– 1 each for capitalization, punctuation, and spelling.  The total test is worth 30 points-15 for the words and 15 for the sentences.

Writing

We are working on our research papers.
